Morgantown Farmers' Market Named Top Market By Southern Living Magazine
Aug 31 2015 — Monday
The Morgantown Farmers’ Market is featured in this month’s Southern Living magazine for being one of “The South’s Best Farmers’ Markets.” The Mills Group designed the multi-purpose Farmers’ Market Pavilion which also features a solar array and rainwater harvesting to create a sustainable open air building for the community.
The Morgantown Farmers’ Market, which is just one of four farmers markets listed, is noted for having hundreds of people lining up at the Morgantown Market Place within 10 minutes of opening to grab the freshest produce – and they stick around for the live entertainment and other local artists.
“To be named one of The South’s Best Farmers’ Markets by Southern Living magazine – who knows the beauty and culture of the South the best – is truly an honor,” said Olivia McConnell, the Morgantown Farmers’ Market manager. “It’s exciting for the magazine to recognize how important the market is to our community and to be listed amongst other great markets.”
The September 2015 issue also listed Kentucky: Lexington Farmers’ Market, Missouri: Webb City Farmers Market and Virginia: Old Town Farmers’ Market in addition to the Morgantown Farmers’ Market.
The Morgantown Farmers’ Market, which is made up of more than 40 vendors, is held Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to noon every Saturday from May 2 to Nov. 7 at the Morgantown Market Place located at 415 Spruce Street. The Morgantown Farmers’ Market holds its Westover market on Tuesdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. May 12 through Oct. 27 at 801 Fairmont Road (former Shop ‘N Save parking lot).
Products at the Morgantown Farmers’ Market vary weekly but include fresh produce, pastries, jams/jellies, goat and cow cheeses, hand-carved wooden items, flowers, bread, eggs, beef, honey and more.
The Morgantown Farmers’ Market’s purpose is to provide area farmers with alternative opportunities through a retail marketplace and also encourage regional farming. The market’s commitment is to provide the consumers with fresh, locally grown or produced products in a convenient location. All products are grown or made within 50 miles of Morgantown.
