Fletcher Residence

Jerry and Marsha Fletcher are long-time residents of Morgantown. They built their dream retirement home on three adjacent lots with a breathtaking view of the Monongahela River and downtown Morgantown. The Fletchers had certain living requirements in mind for their new home but lacked a direction to make everything come together.

Marsha stated, "Michael and his team walked us through a defined process of discovery and actually listened to us. They never tried to force us into a direction that we didn't want to go, but still brought creative solutions to the table we never considered. The process was fantastic. They first listened to what we liked and didn't like through a comprehensive lifestyle exploration. Then they pulled together all kinds of ideas and solutions that took into account our requirements, budget, and land, and spun it all together into a work of art."

While the Fletcher's previous residence was very traditional and conservative in style, they asked the Mills Group to design a contemporary home with a modern aesthetic. The site provided an amazing view, but also presented challenging topography to build a home that encompassed the envisioned design. Builder Pete Heydon of Evergreen Industries, a well-known and respected skilled builder, also found the construction challenging due to the steep grade of the land.

"The topography was very tricky to deal with. Mills Group did a great job designing a home that not only looked great, but accounted for the practical building challenges that would be faced by the guy with the hammer," Pete admitted. "I have a great appreciation for their responsiveness in working through adjustments. Having worked with other architecture firms I can confidently say that Mills Group is far above the norm."
